Getting started

The needle won't settle or points the wrong way

Michi reads your phone's magnetometer, the same sensor a physical compass app uses. If the needle drifts or spins, wave the phone in a figure-8 a few times to recalibrate, and step away from metal, magnets, speakers, and cars. Some devices — most tablets — have no magnetometer at all, and the compass can't work on those.

Michi says it can't find a place nearby

Each mood searches a limited radius around you. In quiet areas, try a different category or move somewhere with more around you. A working internet connection is needed to fetch a new place; once a journey has started, following the needle works offline.

Location & permissions

Why does Michi need my location?

Your location is the whole game: it's how the app finds a place near you and how it measures the distance and direction to it. Your coordinates are sent over an encrypted connection only to fetch search results — they are never stored on our servers. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.

I denied location by mistake

Grant it again in your device settings: Settings → Apps → Michi → Permissions → Location on Android, or Settings → Michi → Location on iOS. "While using the app" is enough for everything except background navigation.

Subscriptions & purchases

What does a subscription unlock?

Michi Unlimited removes the rewarded-ad step before searches and reveals. Everything else — the compass, categories, journeys, and sharing — is available to everyone. Plans (Weekly, Yearly, Lifetime) are billed through the App Store or Google Play.

I paid but don't see premium — or I switched phones

Open the paywall and tap Restore purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple or Google account you bought with. If it still doesn't appear, email us and we'll help.

How do I cancel or get a refund?

Manage or cancel auto-renewing plans in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Refunds are handled by the stores under their own policies — we can't process them directly.

Sharing a place

When you share a hidden place, your friend gets a link that opens the same sealed journey — nothing is revealed until they get close. If they don't have Michi yet, the link points them to the store first. The place stays a secret on the web the whole time.
